2006-2007 Ten Seasons On and Still Riding High

2006-2007 Ten Seasons On and Still Riding High

In the 1996-1997 season Lancaster Ladies 1st team completed the double winning both the Central Lancashire Premier League and the Lishman Plate. Lancaster Ladies had been waiting for that day for 40 years. In the last ten years Lancaster Ladies continue to thrive and prides itself on developing juniors within the area and giving the juniors the opportunity to play hockey at the highest standard within the Lancaster and Morecambe area.

From the winning dream team back in the 1996-1997 season 4 players continue to play in the 1st Team.

On the opening day of the season Lancaster played host to Driffield on their regular pitch at Lancaster University. With the loss of a couple of players at the end of season 2005-2006, new fresh players were brought into the team again, players that have been brought up through the vibrant junior development set-up at Lancaster Hockey Club. The opening game saw Lancaster settle well into game and received a thoroughly well-deserved 3 points in what was to be the first of many 3-2 thrillers.

By midpoint in the season Lancaster were seemed not have the luck in many games, and squandered opportunities within many of the first half of the seasons performances left Lancaster nearing the bottom of the table with just 3 league wins.

Following a long Christmas break a refocused first team entered the New Year revitalised and a great victory against Rotherham.

The following winter weeks Lancaster did not have much joy, within January alone the team faced LA Metro’s twice in the league and once in the National Trophy competition, which were all very close games that Lancaster lost 3-2 each time.

Throughout each game, Lancaster never gave up and played with great determination the league position has no reflection on the team performance in each game.

A season of missed opportunities and bad luck!
