This summer members from Lancaster Hockey Club have been competing on a Thursday evening in the Preston Summer League at Preston Sports Club.
The league has provided an excellent opportunity for players from all five Lancaster teams to play together, learn new skills and socialise with new people.
Somewhat ‘mis-advertised’ as a summer league the first few games were played in wet and cold conditions and began with a defeat to eventual league winners Garstang in week one and a draw with Ball Busters in week two. However, as the weather settled so too did Lancaster with three strong wins in the next three weeks, winning 2-0, 4-0 and 7-1 respectively.
Week six provided Lancaster’s toughest match with a close fought 3-5 defeat to The Camels followed by triumph in week seven with a 1-0 win against winners Garstang. Week eight brought an identical result to week two with a 3-3 draw with Ball Busters. Lancaster suffered one further defeat to close rivals Morecambe and then ended with a fantastic run of three wins, including an 11-0 win over Southport, 7-0 against serial Kickers and another close fought match against The Camels ending 4-3.
Lancaster finished the league in a well-earned third place with a fantastic goal difference of +21. Skills have been shared and developed among the players that took part and it has been a great end to a fantastic 2012/13 season for Lancaster Hockey Club.
