Lancaster & District Ladies’ First Team secured a decisive 5-1 away victory against Carlisle 1 on Saturday, November 22nd, overcoming an early injury setback to deliver a comprehensive performance in the North West Women's Division 1 clash.
The match began on a worrying note for the visitors as defender Nina Helme was forced off with an injury just five minutes into the game, requiring an immediate tactical change. Despite this disruption, Lancaster quickly settled and took complete control of the game, demonstrating overwhelming dominance across the pitch. Goalkeeper Leighan Bleasdale was rarely tested in the first half due to the sustained pressure exerted by the visitors.
The opening goal arrived in the 9th minute when Captain Katie Oliver found the net. Lancaster quickly built on their lead, with Alex Bush doubling the scoreline in the 16th minute, followed by a goal from Julie Walker just four minutes later. Carlisle managed to pull one back in the 25th minute, but Rebecca Airey restored the three-goal margin in the 30th minute, ensuring Lancaster went into the break with a commanding 4-1 advantage.
The second half saw Lancaster continue to control possession and territory, maintaining their high tempo. Although Carlisle showed some resilience in defence, the visitors’ persistence paid off late in the game when Katie Oliver scored her second goal of the day in the 59th minute, sealing the 5-1 win and securing three vital league points.
